Thanks David. The Jaspis is his top cuvee, which I haven’t tasted yet. Looking forward to it on the strength of the Gestad though. Remarkably few other Old World countries make convincing Syrah, but Germany is really getting somewhere now.

I was coming around to thinking that German Syrah is getting interesting. I really rate Ziereisen’s, though I think the one I have tried was labelled Jaspis Alte Reben. Their vineyards are relatively sheltered which I imagine helps with the presumably cooler temps down in southern Baden, in contrast to the warmer Pfalz. I wish I’d been at that tasting.
