Hi Ricky, thanks for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the piece. Funnily enough I got to try a brilliant Amarone this morning, from a producer called Tommasi. If you like that style, their wines are well worth seeking out. Cheers! M

Thanks a lot for your post Matt! I really enjoyed reading the description of red grapes: red wines are my favourite ones – although I find some white grapes extraordinary!

I know some sorts of red wines, but many of those that you have spoken about in your articles sound completely new to me. But I guess that I will try them soon because your description are very convincing!

However, you haven’t described what I consider to be my favourite red wine: Amarone della Valpolicella. This wine is produced in one of the best-known areas, in Italy, as far as wine production is concerned: Valpolicella, in the province of Verona. Veneto in general is a wonderful region from the point of view of wine, but Verona and surroundings are the areas where my favourite wines are produced: in addition to Amarone, I love Recioto and Soave (both white wines, in spite of my preference for red grapes!).

Amarone is a rich, dry, red wine, which is perfect to accompany winter and autumn meat dishes, like braised beef, stew and game meat, but also with cheese (better if Italian!). I suggest that you try it!
