Louis Barruol is one of the most fascinating of the many Vignerons I’ve had long discussions with. At first, he can be off-putting because he has a need to dominate the conversation with conveying all the depth of knowledge he has. But, after an hour or so one realizes he can’t help himself. It’s not narcissism, it’s more uncontrollable passion. Spent a long time with him in the vineyard and then in the cellar (so classic in my opinion). Sadly, for me, not him, I couldn’t fit him into my schedule this year.

My church use graves fruit instead of wine it really bother me so i don’t take communion at church during communion for communion i take it seriously. What can you say about using the fruit instead of wine? For it says in the bible eat the bread and drink the wine?

Great article Matt. I’ve been holidaying in the region for around 30 years and only the last 5 have I been exploring the wines.
Nice to see you mention some of the more noteworthy producers.
In the last few years, there have been some newcomers focusing on organic & natural wines and small productions. Some trained at Plageoles before setting up on their own.
Plageoles’ “Contre Pied” is worth seeking out (carbonic macerated Duras)

Coincidentally, I was able to purchase the white blend & Syrah in Edmonton, Alberta , Canada . Delicious white, not overcworked . Will enjoy the Syrah next week .
