You can go direct without changing to Avignon if you get the right day, but you do have to change at Lille on the way back. It’s not ideal to be honest if you’ve got heavy baggage and/or kids to move around, but it’s OK otherwise – just a bit tedious.

We’ve often thought of popping all the way down to Avignon in the train. What’s the Lille changeover like? Someone told us it’s a bit tough on the way back as you have to do all the immigration and customs off the train in Lille, which means standing in a queue with your bags for an hour?
